Dentists
Dr. Hughes (Retired)
“What a rewarding job I’ve had since 1980! I’ve had the opportunity to meet new people, provide an important healthcare service and watch our patients’ families grow up over the years. Treating the children of folks I have known since they were just kids themselves is fun. It’s all about the relationships we form with our patients.”
R. Michael Hughes DMD has called Chester County home for over 40 years. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, graduating with distinction from Penn State University. He then received his DMD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, graduating in the top ten of his class. To provide the finest patient care, Dr. Hughes continues to build his knowledge base as an attendee of the Pankey Institute and through continuing education courses in all aspects of comprehensive dentistry. He is also a member of both the Pennsylvania Dental Association and the American Dental Association. Dr. Hughes was on the Board of Directors for the Chester County Community Dental Center for four years, serving one year as vice president and two years as president. He has treated children for 15 years as a volunteer dentist of the Brandywine Hospital Dental Clinic. Dr. Hughes spends his time away from the office with his wife, Mary Ann, their children and grandchildren.
After 43 years of practice, Dr. Hughes retired in February 2022. You may still see him around the office from time to time. His son, Michael E. Hughes, continues the practice philosophy of individualized, patient-centered dental care.
Dr. M. Hughes (Dr. Mike)
"As dentists, we have the unique opportunity to see our patients several times per year. With each visit, we are able to build upon existing relationships, watch families grow and have the chance to truly become part of our patients’ lives.”
Michael E. Hughes, DMD, MS, started practicing comprehensive dentistry alongside his father, R. Michael Hughes DMD, in 2011. Known in our office as Dr. Mike, he is a graduate of Penn State with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. While working as a dental assistant in Dr. Hughes’ office, Michael went on to receive his Masters Degree in Biology from West Chester University. In May of 2011, he graduated summa cum laude from Temple University School of Dentistry. Michael was selected to be a member of the national dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, and was awarded, by a vote of the faculty, the Dr. Benjamin Homer Award. This award is given to the graduating dental student who most exhibits the qualities of scholastic excellence, integrity and civility. A member of the International Dental Implant Association, Dr. M. Hughes has completed over 120 hours of continuing education in implant dentistry, and is a fellow of the IDIA. He is certified in Invisalign® and has been a Preferred Provider since 2012. Dr. M. Hughes is also a member of the American and Pennsylvania Dental Associations. He and his wife Lauren are both from Chester County and are happy to be living in the area once again with their sons, Jack and Jamie.
Dr. Berges
“One of the most rewarding parts of our job as dentists is being able to build lasting relationships with our patients and their families while improving both their oral health and quality of life. I am lucky to be joining such an amazing team at Hughes and Hughes Family Dentistry where I will be able to continue the tradition of patient-centered, comprehensive care that both Dr. Hughes and Dr. Mike have created.”
Louis Berges, DMD, joined our team in June of 2018. Dr. Berges graduated summa cum laude from Rutgers University with a degree in Cell Biology and Neuroscience.
