Supporting Children’s Grief Awareness

Team members at Hughes & Hughes Family dentistry

The Hughes & Hughes Family Dentistry team supports Children’s Grief Awareness Day, which is observed annually on the third Thursday in November. Created in 2008 by the Highmark Caring Place, A Center for Grieving Children, Adolescents and Their Families, the day is designed to bring awareness to the fact that often support can make all the difference in the life of a grieving child. As we enter the holiday season, we recognize that this can be a tough time for grieving children after the death of a loved one.

Our support for grief awareness extends all year and we are committed to A Haven, a non-profit organization that provides grief support to children, teens and their families who are grieving the loss of a loved one. A Haven is the only non-profit in Chester County that provides these services free of charge. Dr. R. Michael Hughes and Mary Ann Hughes are A Haven board members, with Mary Ann serving as President of the board of directors.

Loss of life from suicide, violence and drug overdose is all too common in our country. We mourn the loss of all life and want to support the family and friends of those lost. Support groups like A Haven help to heal that hurt. Join us in increasing awareness of the needs of grieving children.
