I smoke: what can I do to whiten my teeth and freshen my breath?

The best solution is to stop smoking. If that is not your choice, try these options:

  • Brush teeth as frequently as you eat
  • Floss at least once a day
  • Follow brushing and flossing with an oral rinse that has earned the American Dental Association’s Seal for reducing “oral malodor” or bad breath
  • Limit other foods, like coffee and red wine, that stain your teeth
  • Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables
  • If you can’t brush after a meal, end your repast with an apple, some baby carrots, or celery sticks (without any dips)
  • Have regular dental checkups and cleanings

For a special occasion or after you stop smoking, talk to your dentist about cosmetic teeth whitening and dental veneers for a bright white smile.
