How does Invisalign work to straighten teeth?

reduced size2The Invisalign system uses a series of nearly invisible, clear plastic aligners to gradually reposition your teeth. Unlike veneers, which may mask flaws, Invisalign actually corrects problems with the spacing and alignment of your teeth, giving you a beautiful smile.

During your initial consultation here at Hughes and Hughes Family Dentists, we’ll develop an Invisalign treatment plan for you. We’ll also take impressions and photographs of your teeth, which will then be used to create your custom aligner trays.

Aligners fit snugly over your teeth, giving you a smooth, comfortable fit. Unlike braces, the aligners can be removed. Imagine how this differs from traditional braces: no more metal mouth for special occasions. No forbidden foods. No special mouth guards for playing sports.

You’ll remove your aligners to eat and you’ll be able to eat whatever foods you enjoy. You’ll brush and floss as part of your normal good dental hygiene practices. Cleaning your aligners is as simple as running them under lukewarm water.

Your treatment will be successful as long as your average wear time is 20-22 hours per day. Aligners are changed about every two weeks and you’ll visit our office every 6 weeks so we can check your progress.
