Electronic cigarettes—good for your dental health?

Significant advertising dollars are being spent to convince you that electronic cigarettes are good for your dental health. However, extensive clinical research is lacking at present. Like cigarettes, e-cigarettes still contain nicotine although in a considerably smaller dose and in vaporized form.

Nicotine contributes to addiction as well as toelectronic cigarettes & dental health

  • Bad breath
  • Bruxism
  • Cancers of the mouth
  • Gingivitis
  • Gum disease
  • Plaque build-up
  • Tooth loss
  • Yellow teeth

If you currently are a non-smoker, we encourage you to refrain from smokeless products, cigarettes, and cigars. If you are trying to quit smoking and think this new product is the answer because of its reduced nicotine and cigarette-like feel, please come in to Hughes & Hughes Family Dentistry for a dental exam. If you are exhibiting gum disease or mouth cancer, a nicotine patch would be safer.
