Practice these basics of good oral hygiene daily to keep your teeth healthy and your smile bright.
- Rinse your mouth out with water immediately after eating or drinking anything
- Brush your teeth after every meal
- Use a toothpaste recommended by your dentist that addresses particular concerns about your teeth and mouth (prevent tartar buildup, whiten, decrease sensitivity, freshen breath)
- Floss each side of each tooth at least once a day, more often if food particles get trapped in dental work or braces
- Complete your dental hygiene ritual with a mouthwash or mouth rinse, choosing from antibacterial and fluoride options based on your particular needs
In addition
- Have a cleaning and dental checkup every six months
- Eat foods that are good for your body and your teeth
- Avoid hard, sticky, and sugary foods especially when you know you will not be brushing your teeth for a while
